ABOUT THE CENTER

A cultural bridge between
China and America.

We create opportunities for American audiences and Chinese cultural practitioners to encounter, understand, and engage with one another.

Why We Exist

Cultures have always advanced through exchange. Ideas, knowledge, technologies, traditions, and artistic expressions cross borders, influence one another, and create new possibilities.

We exist to create more opportunities for that exchange between Chinese culture and American society.

Living

We present Chinese culture as a living and evolving tradition—rooted in history, shaped by people, and continually reinterpreted.

Diverse

We recognize the many histories, regions, traditions, arts, and cultural expressions that make up Chinese culture.

Two-Way

Exchange is not one-way cultural presentation. We create opportunities for both sides to learn, listen, and engage.

Respectful

We seek understanding and respect for cultural differences without asking cultures to become the same.

Open

We remain open to new perspectives, new relationships, new ideas, and possibilities that may emerge from exchange.

Our Story

The idea for the Center grew gradually from a combination of personal experience, cultural knowledge, and relationships.

With a longstanding understanding of Chinese history and traditional culture, our founder developed personal relationships with people working in traditional arts, crafts, music, and cultural heritage. These relationships created direct access to cultural resources whose historical and artistic value could be understood in depth.

After coming to Boston and experiencing the city's cultural institutions, a question became increasingly difficult to ignore: did the Chinese art and cultural material available to American audiences adequately represent the depth, craftsmanship, and cultural value of China's traditions?

The answer led to a larger realization: Chinese culture and American society need more meaningful channels for genuine cultural exchange.

The Center grew from that realization—not to speak for an entire culture, but to create opportunities for people, traditions, ideas, and experiences to meet.

Mission

To share the richness of Chinese history, arts, traditions, and cultural heritage with diverse audiences through exhibitions, performances, education, and cultural exchange, while building meaningful connections between Chinese and American communities.

Vision

We believe cultures grow stronger when they meet, exchange, and evolve together. Throughout history, societies have advanced by engaging with ideas, knowledge, technologies, and traditions from beyond their own borders.

We envision a world where cultural exchange is not simply about preserving differences, but about creating new possibilities through understanding, openness, and shared experience.

Culture comes alive
when people meet.

Our work creates the conditions for encounter, dialogue, mutual understanding, collaboration, and new possibilities.
